Distinguishes between live vs dead cells in a single reagent. The NUCLEAR-ID Red/Green cell viability reagent (Prod. No. ENZ-53006) is a mixture of a red fluorescent cell-permeable nucleic acid dye and a green fluorescent cell-impermeable nucleic acid dye that is suited for staining dead nuclei. The staining pattern arising from the simultaneous combination of these two dyes permits determination of live and dead cell populations by fluorescence/confocal microscopy. The reagent, supplied as a 1000x solution, is sufficient for 1000 microscopy assays. The single-tube format makes this cell viability reagent easy to use. Detecting viable bacterial cells is important for analyzing bacteria contamination in food and evaluating the cleanliness of facilities to prevent food poisoning and infections. Bacterial cell detection is also used for screening sanitizing agents and drug resistance detection. Generally, counting the number of colonies on an agar plate is the standard method for determining the number of viable bacterial cells in samples, which may take days to visualize. The Microbial Viability Assay Kit-WST can be used to determine the number of viable bacterial cells in a sample in only a few hours by a colorimetric method. The electron mediator in the kit receives electrons from viable bacterial cells and transfers the electrons to WST, a water-soluble tetrazolium salt. Bacterial cell viability can then be determined by monitoring the color intensity of WST formazan dye. This assay kit was co-developed with the Biotechnology and Food Research Institute, Fukuoka Industrial Technology Center.

Using a simple and reproducible protocol in serum- and feeder-free conditions, you can produce hematopoietic progenitor cells expressing CD34, CD45, and CD43. The robust, two-stage protocol initially induces cells toward the mesoderm before further differentiating them into hematopoietic progenitor cells. After 12 days, a population of hematopoietic cells containing 25 - 65% (average 43%) CD34+CD45+ progenitor cells can be harvested, including progenitor cells that have the capacity to form functional hematopoietic colonies in the colony-forming unit (CFU) assay. Senescent cells show common biochemical markers such as expression of an acidic senescence-associated ß-galactosidase (SA-ß-Gal) activity. While senescence has been characterized primarily in cultured cells, there is also evidence that it occurs in vivo. Cells expressing SA-ß-Gal have been identified in normal tissues. Cell Biolabs' Quantitative Cellular Senescence Assay Kit uses a non-toxic fluorogenic substrate to measure SA-ß-Gal activity. This compound is a membrane permeable, non-fluorescent substrate of ß-galactosidase, which after hydrolysis of the galactosyl residues emits green fluorescence and remains confined within the cell. In comparison to the conventional cytochemical assay using X-gal, the use of a the fluorogenic substrate greatly enhances the sensitivity of the assay and allows you to study living cells by flow cytometry for more quantitative measurement of SA-ß-Gal activity. Each kit provides sufficient quantities to perform up to 10 assays in 35 mm wells.
